Alfonse grew up in the shadow of his father. He wants to become a great inventor and a great fighter pilot just like his father. However, he didn't inherit the family grace. While clumsy and not much of a forward thinker, things tend to get worse with the combination of his love of planes, swords and fire arms. I've actually talked to this person...and no their name wasn't in any intention to make a joke towards "Alfonse Elrick". Sorry, I don't know who you are, but please at least get your information right before you point accusations; It's spelled Alphonse Elric, with no k.

Anyway, I don't think their name should change, it's a coincidence it's spelled the same. This reminds me of the time when my father figure was banned from a game server because they thought his name was a reference to Adolf Hitler. His name was Adolphus Krieger, a character from a legit book.
