“I never thought it would turn out like this Leia… Not in a million years would I have seen this coming. I’m sorry for this, I really am…”
These were Aiden’s words on the last day of the Winter Solstice He spoke these words as he lay beside his beloved Leia, he received the warning, but he didn’t listen, he didn’t her words… The words of his mother.
It all started long before Aiden was born. His great-grandfather Allen Alistar, age 28, was lost at sea on his ship, the Highwind. His crew was all but dead and he himself not far behind, his wife Shiina Alistar 24 was pregnant at home with a child, and eagerly awaiting the return of her husband. Allen felt this and desired to get back to his wife at any cost… It was then that he cursed the gods of the sea and the gods of fortune. At this, Poseidon, the god of the seas appeared and conjured a storm that could easily wipe out seaside towns and villages. This storm only fueld his desire to return to his sweet Shiina… He sold his soul. With the lives of his entire crew he made a pact with Karasu, an Archangel that had lost his way and begun traveling the path of darkness. Karasu took the sacrifice of the 15 men aboard his ship and Allen’s soul, and in return a path was lit to Allen’s homeland. Allen followed the path and finally made port in his hometown of Lior. Allen quickly made his way to his wife, stumbling and breathing heavily, heavy with fatigue. He arrived, knocking frantically, and then just seconds before the door opened, he fell to his knees as he felt his life draining out of him. The second the door opened and he laid eyes upon his beloved’s face he fell to the ground, lifeless, dead. Shortly after this incident Shiina gave birth to a son, and in memory of her husband, the son was Allen Alistar II. Years would pass as Allen II grew to become a man that was just like his father, loving, caring, hardworking, and ever thinking of the sea. By age twelve Allen II was already a strong fighter and was part of a crew of guards for trade ships with cargo that needed protecting. On his 13th birthday Allen II was informed of the death of his father, and sternly warned to never trust the words of Karasu. Allen II listened to his mother and promised never to make a pact with the creature that killed his father, and so he decided to hunt it, kill it, he felt that nothing that evil and powerful should be given the right to roam freely, and kill others. Allen II trained harder and harder until the age of 18, he joined Lior’s navy and took up a crew of his own aboard his father’s ship, the Highwind.
Allen took job after job escorting precious cargo, and important people, he also defended against bandits and neighboring armies. He was a much respected man in Lior. He had everything but the one thing he wanted most, his father’s killer. He began researching incidents involving Karasu and discovered that the only times he showed up were in times of great agony when a person has something that they’d kill for, and only with a sacrifice. Allen continued living his life, waiting for a situation where he would desire something enough for Karasu to show his face. After 2 years Allen was finally 20 and ready to wed a young wife, he chose Ragna Asher, a warrior maiden of Egyptian decent, to be his wife. Within a year of the marriage she bore him a son, Allen II wanted him to be named Allen Allistar III, but Ragna insisted he be named Aiden Asher Neos, much like her ancestor the founder of the tribe of Asher. After much debate it was decided that he would be named Aiden Allistar Neos. Aiden grew to be a strong young boy who loved his mother deeply, as well as his friend Leia Morgana.
After turning 5 he, like the other men of the Allistar bloodline, took a liking to the sea. He would watch his father head out to see and wave a massive flag every day until his father’s return, a ritual of luck in a sense. Aiden began to train under his father, seeking strength, he first took up his father’s great sword fighting style and mastered it, quickly surpassing his father’s skill with it. Soon though, he decided that it just wasn’t the style for him, and so he took up a dual sword style, after making many variations to many different dual sword styles, he chose to name it the “Shadow Hydra” style, for its flexibility in close range and long range fighting that much resembled a Hydra, in addition to its many tricks and surprises that came from his skills.
Another 8 years would pass and Aiden had become 13 and had entered a naval academy, his father Allen II, now age 32, had become a high ranking captain who had earned nationwide fame in the Arcane war that had taken place over the past 8 years, he had taken the lives of many high ranking enemy generals, and had even expanded the territory of Roinel, the kingdom that Lior was part of.
It was now a time of peace for Lior and as natural in any time of peace disaster must strike. As Aiden slept in his room the war effort of the army of Kassidin finally reached the shores of Lior. Aiden awoke to the sound of explosions as Kassadin’s army began to lay waste to Lior’s guards. Allen II quickly prepared for battle. Once he finished he walked into Aiden’s room fully armed and prepared for battle.
Allen II: Aiden my boy, take care of your mother should anything happen to me. I’ll be leaving now.
Aiden II left without saying goodbye to his wife, his way of reassuring himself that he would return. He walked out the door leaving his family behind. Many hours passed and the battle raged on Kassadins soldiers pushed into the heart of Lior and began killing innocent people, Aiden took up his two swords and struck down each enemy soldier that entered a 50 meter radius of his mother. Soon he and his mother were forced to leave behind their house. He took his swords guns and other important supplies and fled to the church where many other villagers had been seeking shelter. Once inside the church he met up with his friend Leia and her family, the advanced to the bell tower and watched as the battle continued. The city ablaze and bodies scattered endlessly across the ground, hope was all but lost. That’s when Aiden decided to protect his family and friends, and no sooner than he decided that in his heart, a cannonball flew through the air and smashed through the church.
Aiden: Shit! Mom, Leia you all stay here, I’m going to go check things downstairs, I think Kassadin’s dogs will be coming soon…
Aiden leapt over the edge of the bell tower, he landed in front of the church with a roll and looked around, after a quick scan of the area he ran into the church and discovered many of the people seeking shelter there dead, the remainders were either praying or cursing their god, a concept Aiden never really believed in anyway. That’s when he heard a loud thud on the ground outside. He ran out and saw Leia’s mother broken and lifeless on the ground.
Aiden: Dammit when did the enemy get here!? LEIA!! MOM!! I’M COMING, HOLD ON!
Aiden ran up the bell tower wall, leaping across the now tattered foundation of the church, and when he reached the top what he saw scared and enraged him. There was a cloaked figure emitting a thick black energy that polluted the air, the figure was holding Leia’s father in its hands, crushing his skull and laughing, evilly, yet there was something strange about this laugh… it was feminine.
Aiden: Put him do--
The figure launched the body at Aiden with little movement or effort, it hit Aiden like a wrecking ball and sent him plummeting to the ground, however, he flipped over in mid air and kicked off of Leia’s father and clutched onto the wall.
Aiden: I can’t believe this…I have to save Leia and Mom at least…
Aiden reached onto his back and grabbed his gun and began firing rounds into a support beam for the tower, the shots landed with massive impact and within seconds the tower began to crumble, Aiden flipped around to the side of the bell tower and run up the tower ass it fell, almost instantly he reached the top and grabbed Leia and his Mother, but the cloaked figure was nowhere around. He leapt from the tower and landed on the ground then quickly ran from the site of the falling bell tower. Once at a safe range he sat the two down and regained his composure.
Aiden: Are you two alright?
Leia had been crying for some time and had shown no signs of stopping, and Aiden’s mother began to comfort her.
Ragna: There, there Leia, they died protecting you, you shouldn’t cry over their sacrifice…
Aiden noticed something strange at that moment as his mother spoke…
Ragna: …No matter how foolish, or hilariously futile their deaths were, tears won’t change a thing
As Aiden’s mother began to laugh, Aiden realized who it was.
Aiden: LEIA GET AWAY FROM HER NOW!
Ragna: Oh, so you finally noticed it?
Aiden had already drawn his gun and had been aiming it directly at his “mother’s” head, and he showed no signs of hesitation, he pulled the trigger sending a bullet spiraling into the imposter’s head, and almost instantly he dashed forward and grabbed Leia, after putting some distance between himself and the dead imposter the laugh came again as his mother’s body rose from the ground like a possessed doll.
Ragna: My my my, when did you become such a naughty boy Aiden, you used to love your mother and now you’ve gone and shot me, I’m hurt by that you know. Hahaha.
Aiden: You’re not my fucking mother, so stop wearing her face and pretending you are, cause it’s really pissing me of.
Ragna: Oh but I am your mother, I gave birth to you and a I even married that foolish father of yours, all for two reasons, one being that I DESPISE your bloodline, and the other being that I absolutely LOVE you Aiden… Or rather, I love what you really are, my little death angel, my beloved son, my Zero.
Instantly Ragna was before Aiden with a large key stabbed into his chest, as Aiden’s blood dripped down the key a collar appeared around Aiden’s neck, Ragna turned the key as if locking a door…or perhaps unlocking one. Aiden lost consciousness remembering only pain and the cries of Leia.
Aiden awoke some time later with a strange tattoo on his shoulder and a chain lock around his neck. He looked up hoping to see Leia nearby, but all he found was a desolate monochromatic wasteland. His eyes welled with tears, and for the first time in his life he cried… Within moments his mother appeared before him once more, and began walking toward him, as she walked her appearance seemed to blow off of her, like dust being blown off an object revealing silver haired woman with black wings and a tattered dress.
Aiden: I knew you weren’t my mother, Just who the hell are you, ad what did you do with my mother!?
?: You’re wrong my sweet, I am your mother, and my name really is Ragna, Ragna Neos, but Ragna none the less, though I suppose “Karasu” would be a better known “name.”
Aiden: You, I should have known, I’ve heard stories about you, you’re a sick fuck you know that?
Ragna: I am neither sick nor evil nor anything else those humans have labeled me as, I merely give people what they want with a price. I am your mother, and I’d appreciate it if you’d see me as such.
Aiden: Fuck that, you don’t know shit about us humans!
Ragna: “US” Humans you say? I’m sorry, but you’ll have to discard such a cheap ideal, I only let you grow up with those sickening creatures because I knew your father was a strong man, and you’d need to feed off his life energy in order to develop into a strong man, that and he could teach you to fight.
Aiden: Bullshit, my father hated you, he’d never marry your ass.
Ragna: Which is why I killed his wife, your mother, the day after they were married, it was my greedy desire to bring you into this world faster, and set the stage for you to mature properly. Forgive me?
Aaiden: I can’t believe this…
Ragna: Then I’ll prove it to you…
With a snap of her fingers Aiden fell to his knees and his shirt was singed off as his back was torn open by a large wing. It was unbearable pain that pulsed through his entire body, and as it did his mind filled with memories that didn’t belong to him.
Aiden: What is this!
Ragna: Your other memories my love.
Aiden awoke in his new bed 2 years later, age 15 next to his wife, Leia, age 17. He walked outside into the cool weather and looked around at the preparations for the Winter Solstice Festival. As he stared over the balcony Leia walked behind him and hugged him.
Leia: What’s the matter?
Aiden: That dream again.
Leia: Again? You haven’t had that dream in a year.
Aiden: I know, which is why it worries me, that last time I had that dream I lost part of my crew… I’m afraid to go out to sea.
Leia: You have to, you’re the most important part of the village, you keep us alive.
Aiden: That’s not true, I’m just a pirate, I highly doubt that I’m the most important part of this village
Leia: No matter, you’re going to go, if you don’t we’ll be short on food after the festival. I’ll come with you, for good luck.
Aiden: Hmmm then I have nothing to worry about huh? Let’s go back inside, it’s cold.
A few days later the Winter Solstice festival was winding down to its end, Aiden had taken his wife Leia to sea with his crew aboard his pirate ship The Arc. They were on their way back from plundering supplies, weapons, and saving slaves taken by the Kassadin and Karasu armies. As he sailed across the blue seas the color in the area drained away, everything outside a few feet of the ship, was shades of black and white. Time seemed to move faster in the black and white areas surrounding the Arc, and within seconds two ships sped up on either side of the Arc and from one ship a winged woman walked across.
Aiden: Hello Mother
Ragna: Hello Aiden my love.
Leia moved close behind Aiden and held him.
Leia: What do you wa—
Ragna: Silence knave, I have not come to speak to you, I came for Aiden.
Aiden: I will not have any part of you and your war, I will not be what you want, and I will NOT become Zero…not again.
Ragna: I told you Aiden…I told you that you cannot run from this. You WILL become mine, and you WILL fulfill your destiny, and this is where it will all begin.
Ragna turned from Aiden and walked back to her ship, which quickly sped away within the hastened black and white zones, it was then that a winged figured appeared aboard the Arc. It spread its wings and its feathers tore through the crew members, the ship, Aiden, and Leia instantly, it disappeared just as quickly s it came, burning the Kassadin army emblem into the ship’s deck upon exiting.
And as Aiden lay beside his wife as the Arc sank he wept and apologized to his wife. He would have his revenge for this, and he would save everyone no matter what, those were his only thoughts, and at that moment his soul was sold to Karasu, so that he could save everyone. His wing sprouted and he went into a trance like state. He awoke some time later aboard the Arc, it was undamaged, but more thatn that, it was empty, no crew, no supplies, no wife. All that was there were his weapons and a note from his mother.
Dear Aiden
I told you so, I told you that you wouldn’t be able to escape fate, you’re a prisoner of destiny and a slave to your obligations. Your desire came to pass through my power, and now I have taken payment for it. Can you guess what I took? Don’t worry you can have it all back, you just have to work for me. Carry out a few goals and continue to battle with the Armies of Kassadin, and you’ll have everything back. Your ship is already on a course for the someplace nice, go settle down there, advance yourself and wait for your first job.
Love Mom
P.S. Your wife had a great desire as she died as well, can you guess what her payment was?
Aiden stood to his feet and released his letter, letting it blow in the wind. After a while the Arc hit land, Aiden took his weapons and supplies, including the anchor from the Arc, and hopped down into the sand, landing on the shore he looked out over the sea, then turned and walked off into the territory of the Depths, as he walked a black wolf began to walk beside him.
